I unironically like Tundra. Am I alone? Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:59 AM PDT There's something about it that's a nice, unique mix of challenges and advantages. Obviously you need to act fast or the cold will kill you, and there's a resource management aspect to building your base that demands more planning. On the upside though, first and foremost, if Randy or Cassandra or whoever decides to screw you with Toxic Fallout, you just say "jokes on you, I'm already living in a lifeless hellhole!" and go about your business, the only loss being you can't pad your food with as much hunt. Another advantage is that often any raid attempts are ill-prepared for the weather and either have to abandon completely, or get cut down in size til only the guys in parkas remain, which themselves are easier targets to face. Yes, you're in a parka too, but human planning and tactics are gonna outdo the AI randomly sending dudes at you. I never understood why people claim Tundra is harder than desert is easier since, as they say, you can always put layers on, but you can only take so many off. Unless I missed something, Parkas provide faaaaaaaar superior cold protection than any other clothing piece provides heat protection. Heat also means that if power goes out, your food supply starts rotting away, whilst with Tundra you really just keep a campfire for those instances in case power is out and parkas aren't cutting it. Heat waves in desert, imo, are far deadlier than cold snaps in tundra. Overall it just feels like a more unique way to play with significant rewards (more resistant to raids or events that kill plant/animal life) as well as significant downsides (gotta plan resources CAREFULLY, electricity is your lifeblood, feels like the game hands you less colonists too, probably because transport pod crashes AND raids are more likely to die before you can get them inside; less events handing you people too), and I really, thoroughly enjoy the challenge of it alongside seeing a very humble beginning build up into a working, fully functioning colony. Anyone agree? Or is there another "extreme" biome you enjoy? [link] [comments] |

Aren't turrets kind of useless now ? Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:09 AM PDT Most of the time I used to have 5-6 simple turrets + 2 autocannon turrets on my defense line, it wasn't doing the job alone, but it helped my pawns a lot durind a raid. Now since the last (two last?) update i feel like they are much less precises and powerfull, almost useless. It is me or... ? [link] [comments] |

Can I use my dozens of cats as a feline shield? Posted: 18 Sep 2020 07:11 AM PDT Hi there, So my colony currently has like 60 cats and just like the real thing, they're pretty useless. However, can I use zones to shepherd them towards enemies in order to draw fire away from my little people or are enemies smart enough to ignore them? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Medical Supplements, I can't use medical stents Posted: 18 Sep 2020 05:58 AM PDT Hi guys/girls of Reddit, I have a high modded version of the game (you can find the full list at the end of this post) but I had an issue with "Medical Supplements" by Pelador (what a fabulous mod it is, brilliant). I've been playing this wonderful game for hundreds of hours but I could't administer/insert "medical stents" into a pawn of mine's artery: she had an artery blockage and I didn't find the related operation button. Well, she was 31 and her heart had 95% of remaining functionality. I started giving her Aspirin to prevent this desease to go forward, tending it every 2 days and it seems to work! But then she had a fatal heart attack after a year and died (oh what a sad story). So, I've lost a good pawn for this! Am I the only one that could't use those medical stents? And it seems that the other medical device that comes along in the same tech ("medical surgery items"), "arteficial back disc" has the same problem in my game. I simply can't find a way to use it. Do I forgot something? Do I need operation tables or some tools maybe, or is there a different way that I don't know yet in order to use these medical devices? I have a small hospital full of hospital beds, medicines and monitors and that's it! Thanks people! I tried to explain the best way I could, I didn't find anybody else with the same issues in other posts/videos. My personal mod list! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Sep 2020 06:31 AM PDT Started a game, pretty uneventful for 20 days Get a quest for a mech cluster Equipped my guy in full flak from a empire raid, with a charge rifle as his weapon, rich Explorer start Mech cluster spawns and its seemingly not too bad, just gotta deal with an auto mortar I immediately step into range of a charge blaster The first shot hits through standard flak jacket, the vest and my synthread shirt Straight into the heart Killing poor blitz instantly Strangely, its the first time I've ever had an injury to the torso deal 0 damage to it, and just damage the heart Annoying, but kinda unavoidable, that auto mortar wouldve wrecked ass otherwise [link] [comments] |
