I... I can't wrap my mind around what just happened

    Background: 11 yr colony

Story-centric, I am writing up what happened in this colony in a story but what just happened is so incredible it is worth telling right now out of chronological order.

The story is focused on Apryl, a cannibal Necromancer that landed on the planet as a teen. One of her associates is Titus, who is an Enchanter. Now, for background, the colony used to only accept necromancers exclusively, but a certain Rachel and this Titus wormed their way in by being extremely useful in a few key ways when Apryl needed it, so she tolerates their presence. Apryl also lowkey respects Titus, thought she would never admit it.

Titus sits around all day either cooking or making sculptures, and the colony is at a point where the most senior members have full prestige recon armor. Titus has been there for 5.4 years of the 11, and only Orlene has been there longer for 8.8 years. The time before Orlene came is known as the Lost Years - only Apryl can tell of what happened in that time.

Anyway, Titus asked Apryl if he could go on a scouting mission and start to repair some of the damage Rachel caused to the colony's public image. (It's a long story, but suffice it to say Rachel is hated and admired at once, she split with the group and in a state of anger took out 4 friendly colonies, only to finally be stopped by the empire. Apryl and Rachel had a jealousy thing, you will read all about it later.)

So Apryl gave him her blessing, and Titus took a handful of the colony's most expensive items in the tiny SRTS Superpod built for one person and went off. He traded amicably with a few, then some prisoners caught his eye and he freed some of them. As his pod could only take one and being far from home, he bought up weapons and armor and outfitted his new gang of colonists with the best he could afford, going from colony to colony and trading and building up, eventually totaling 22 colonists in his caravan!

Among the first which inspired this shift was a Priest, who Titus has a thing for. So this 22 start attacking enemy settlements now, rolling over everyone in their way and acquiring better weapons and armor along the way. They do lose a great number over the weeks though, and they are finally down to only 9 highly equipped soldiers when Apryl calls Titus back, hearing rumors of what he has been up to. With no choice but to obey, Titus flies home in his Superpod, to explain himself to Apryl.

She obviously isn't happy that he recruited people without her will, especially people who aren't even mages. Titus explains all the good they have done so far though, and that it would be impossible for them to come home being so far away unless Apryl sent one of the shuttles. More on the shuttles in a second. So Titus is off the hook, and sends word to his recruits to go and attack the neighboring pirate village without his help. Titus assumes they won't all make it from this, as only 8 people against what is around 12-14 plus turrets isn't easy, especially as the pirate band is better armed than they.

Well. He did not count on the ingenuity of Acominata, the Priest, who took charge of the group and made them build a fort a little ways out. Just a basic house, where they could rest for the night and prepare. From there, they tracked a herd of boomalopes as they approached the pirate base, and struck at the right moment so the boomalopes were nearer the pirates when they angered the herd.

The pirates, angry at the boomalopes attacking them and suspecting what was up, immediately started attacking the little shack.

Acominata instructed everyone to stay calm and stay put until they could hear the enemies breaking down the walls from all sides. Then, they struck. One warhammer-enabled soldier and the other with a plasmablade existed the shack and took out two of their biggest guns. With the doors held open, the other 6 colonsits fired shots through the doorway 3 to each door, taking out one after another and disorienting the pirates. Before long, so many pirates were down that they signaled the order to flee!

The colonists barely were hurt, and none of the 8 were even downed. Acominata took care of the wounds, selflessly healing all she could.

But a bit too much... See, she used up all her mana without realizing it. Slowly, as the colony dealt with stragglers from the pirates and started to figure out how to deal with the turrets, Acominata started wasting away from mana sickness.

The only hope for her was mana potions that the base might be hiding, if they could just get past those turrets...

After some considerable effort, multiple snipers were able to take out the northern turrets and sneak in the base, and hold off the last turret as the other colonist infiltrated. They found no mana potion.

Acominata, desperate and dying, sent a wave to Titus, begging him to do something.

With a heavy heart and tears in his eyes, Titus goes to Apryl to tell her what happened, knowing they can't do anything. The Superpod doesn't have enough range to get there, and they don't have any extra fuel, he checked that before going to Apryl. Also, they used to have two SRTS Canary shuttles (which feature heavily in years 9-11) called The Hive and Deliverance, but Titus himself helped dismantle these two vessels.

What Titus did not know, since he was away on his trip, was that Apryl was building a new ship to replace those shuttles, an SRTS TEK-7, better in every way than those shuttles. Finished just in time, Apryl gave Titus exclusive use of the shuttle, and gave him her blessing for saving his friend.

Now, they had no mana potions at home, but of the 4 mages, ONLY TITUS knew how to use the Transfer Mana spell. Only he could even save her. Literally.

Anyway, Acominata is at deaths door now, at 86% mana sickness when with just a single survival meal and no other cargo Titus runs to the ship and takes off immediately. I have no idea at this point if he is even going to make it in time.

Titus arrives and she is at 88%, and he saves her, giving her some of his own mana reserves.

As he is by her side, with fresh mana running through her body, she sits up and starts praying.

She starts praying! The Priest starts praying as her first conscious action. Then she faints again!

She is now recovering, and Titus is overseeing her return to health and the final elimination of the base defenses.

    EDIT

Acominata survives this and Titus brings her back to the main colony... She meets Apryl and the others, the story continues.
