Currently running is a massive charity event for Doctors Without Borders, hosted by 36 streamers over 124 hours straight!

The RimWorld Hot Potato Charity Event for MSF is taking place November 25th at 10AM-November 30th at 4PM PST! The Hot Potato is a RimWorld challenge where a group of streamers pass a single save file to work towards a common goal.

Some big-name streamers are going to be included in the event, such as BurkeBlack, Cringer, Etalyx, and 2DKiri!

On the last turn, starting on November 30th at noon pacific, Suwey will also be interviewing Tynan himself! If you would like to submit a question to be potentially asked, you can submit it in this form here: https://forms.gle/FW8z35hNvCyFMZRk6 Also, there will be an incentive during the interview to donate a certain amount to the charity where you can ask Tynan a question as long as it is within reason.

To find out more about the event, follow the Hot Potato Twitter and look at the Schedule on the Tiltify page for the event here:

In addition, in our Discord server, we have a channel devoted to announcements for the stream, including when the potato is passed, a chat channel viewers to talk about the event, and an exclusive opt-in role for event pings.

And just in case, the original Reddit post from Suwey, the person organizing this wonderful event, is here!

One of the most satisfying things I've seen. Mech cluster quest right next to hive infestation quest. (the bugs won, slightly)

Was having a bit of a thought here. I've used Questionable Ethics before, and love the idea of farming clones and whatnot for various purposes...... However, in my tired state of mind I came up with a brilliant idea. We have all had that one prisoner that we wish we could keep for eternity. Now, I am not saying that we could use cloning itself to prolong the person in question's life. I'm saying that instead, we could mass produce this same person, and constantly subject the clones to various degrees of torture, while we/I make the original watch in horror and fear as they would likely be made into a nugget after the initial dna sequencing would be complete. What do you guys think? Could range from rooms without tables, to artic/desert simulations. Murderbot fun if you use Androids, or even making them fight each other somehow in an unregulated clone fight club of sorts.

Two of my colonists decided to have a mental break, and start insulting each other. This amuses me greatly

My prisoner has access to almost anything in the base. I provide them proper clothing, but some won't wear tops and/or bottoms. Everyday food is fine meal, was not given tasks like do farming, cooking, etc. I just sold 7 other inmates with a harvested lung and kidney, thenthis dude committed suicide

One Cobra did this. Can we please make cobras immune to their own venom so they'll eat the poisoned creatures? It's literally Day 2 and it's taken out an entire family of monkeys. They refuse to eat toxic build up corpses from their own venom. Surely, they should be immune to it to a degree.

Can I go full 40k without using mostly their mods?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 07:23 AM PST

I'm thinking of a scenario and seeing if its feasible or possible to do. Basically I start with maybe one or two colonists, start as tribal and start in a world that has low rainfall. My goal is simulate what its like during the age of strife was so here is my parameters:

    1. I can't research anything, I can only get techprints to progress or unlock new tech.
    2. I have the Rimwar mod, where all the factions are at war and increase the difficulty
    3. I can't recruit prisoners. Fully pure. Add pregnancy and children mods so I can only have Colonists that originally came from my colony and not convince others to join.
    4. Can't let anyone join. Disable wanderer joins or like that.
    5. Purely human. No Xeno Scum.
    6. Can't use mostly all 40k mods. Kinda wanna do a different kind of 40k. Organs and geneseed tho is fair game.

If you want to add some more difficulty or some advice on how this can work, let me know.

How important is time elapsed with regards to difficulty scaling?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 07:16 AM PST

I know that colony wealth is a huge multiplier, which is why I try to keep it lower and grow with my colony's capacity. Is time elapsed equally weighted, or is it a lesser influence? I ask because I'm growing concerned my "Randy, Losing is Fun" colony may be falling behind the temporal curve, so to speak, and even with relatively low wealth may not be able to handle another big event. I just had a very obnoxious mechanoid drop pod raid.

I really like this game, but I think I might suck at it.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 06:21 AM PST

So I have attempted several colonies, and never made it very far. I have been trying to do the crash landing start because they say that's easiest. Most of the time I die to starvation because I just don't have the manpower to keep up with food, and training my cook leads to a lot of food poisoning. When I try to expand my pawns i have horrible success. Ever attack the good raiders always seem to die on me, oh but those very nervous pessimists with the psycite addiction always survive. I know what you're gonna say, psycic shock lances. I've lost a few colonies just trying to get them. if I send out a caravan almost nothing gets done, but it seems I'm almost always raided while they are gone. So many caravans have come home to smoldering rubble and dead herds. And if at any point I loose someone I'm screwed, so just the act of hunting for food has doomed many of my colonies thanks to mad animals and revenge. I once lost my whole colony to 2 squirrels.

TLDR: Any good advice for a noob struggling to make it out of early game?
