Over 200 hours in and I just realized I can save a pawn's life by amputating their extremely infected limbs

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 11:28 AM PST

Never occurred to me that if they weren't getting immunity fast enough to overtake the infection, I could just chop off the limb. Doesn't help for torso infections, but still. I've lost so many to infected arms and legs, this is a game changer for me. Love that I'm still finding new ways to play the game

    Farewell, Fabian and Sarai...

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 01:54 AM PST

Fabian and Sarai were about to get married. Both of them joined our colony few years after establishment. Fabian became a good medic and hunter, while Sarai was a perfect crafter with high intellectual skills. But as usual on Rimworld, nobody can guarantee a happy ending.

It was a sunny day. Fabian went out to gather some metal slags left after destroying recent mechanoid ship wreck, when he got attacked by bear who apparently didn't have meal for a while. Normally, bear would have no chances against Fabian's trusty bolt action rifle and shooting skills, but in this case bear was cheeky by seeming non-hostile and letting Fabian pass close by when he attacked driven by hunger. Sarai and 3 other colonists were sent out immediately to help him, but Fabian was too far from colony, and too close to the bear. Sarai run to him as fast as she could with other members of rescue team, while hearing muffled roar of a bear and Fabian's screams of pain over the radio.

They were almost there, going around the little rocky hill when radio went silent. Sarai started panicking, and as they came to the place they saw that Fabian was dead. Bear was also there, carelessly muching on the fresh corpse. Sarai never was a good shooter, yet, she pulled out her trusty revolver and shot all six bullets in a mere seconds. Bear got enraged by someone interrupting his lunch with gunshots and turned to attack Sarai, but 2 more rifles and a pump shotgun quickly turned him into a swiss cheese.

A tomb was quickly built nearby the colony, and Fabian buried in the presence of entire colony members.

Time went past, days after days, but Sarai was still depressed about the death of Fabian. At one particular day, after barely surviving the manhunter pack of bears, she lost it. Death of her fianceè, fucking bears all around, everyday work with little variety in available recreation and constant power outages with conditioning and heaters not being able to deal with heat waves and cold snaps made her have a tantrum. She decided she had enough, and exited the colony and went away to leave that place behind. With only a revolver and a single meal with her, she wouldn't get too far. Knowing that, two other colonists followed her to try to bring her back. They reached her when she just left the gates and was going past the defensive perimeter with turrets. She was done with colony, but other colonists were desparate to bring her back, so an argument was started, which quickly went into an agressive conflict. Sarai never really was known for calmness and with recent events it was way too easy to enrage her. When she went into a berserk state and pointed her weapon towards other colonists, she was way too carried away to remember where she was. Autocannons turrets' pointed their heavy barrels at her, and opened fire. The military tech AI of a turrets does not care who you are. You point a gun at colonist - you pay the price. Even if you were the one who built needed components for this turret.

    Hardcore SK question

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 07:17 AM PST

    Hey friends,

I thought about trying out this modpack for a while, but i don't have a lot of free time and don't want to waste it on probing out and experimenting with it to just end up dropping it soon after. So i came here for your opinions, is it worth playing? What are the features that make it worthwhile and so on. Thanks for the answers, much love.

    Dinosauria question regarding T-Rex

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 04:05 AM PST

I recently downloaded the mod and a rex is on my map. The taming chance is low with a fairly high attack-on-fail chance. I rather suspect a rex will just about instantly down a pawn, given its melee dps.

I'd certainly take the risk (because I am, if nothing else, a save scrubber), but its life expectancy says 35. Anyone who has a rex... do these things start developing age ailments like normal animals? Cuz, damn. I mean, elephants have a life expectancy of 50. D:

Slightly related: Anyone who has tamed a Rex and used it against raiders... How did it fare? How does it compare to the Thrumbo?
