I was inspired by someone's logging cabin and started making separate bases of my own. (All one colony)

How to order making/repairing spike traps to be made of any stone material ?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:29 AM PST

    Hi,

I wonder if there is a mod that allows making traps of any stone (non wood material). My exp is like this:
I have several i.e. granite traps and when they get destroyed I want to allow to rebuild them i.e. out of slate for example when I dont have enough of granite but have plenty of slate. So I just want my traps to be build out of some stone (not wood) but I dont care which one (the one I have enough supplies for). Is this doable in Rimworld in any of the mods?

How to actually survive the first year?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 07:48 AM PST

I've been playing rimworld for years now, and I still am absolutely terrible at it .

In really confused how people survive on higher difficulty, I'd really like to so a random randy about medium-low difficulty but the first few raids always get me.

Assuming I survive the first few raids I typically don't get a lot of new colonists because the raiders do not survive to be captured and any mission to leave the base to go rescue someone ends in absolute disaster (how DOES the mission system work exactly? It seems like all my caravans are doomed)

Could someone experienced give me a simple run down of their first few years from character creation to about mid research?

I feel like if I could master that part of the game I'd be having a much better time.

I always aim for nice and comfy colony

    What is wrong with me?

XO - Android Tiers Ice Base

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 12:19 AM PST

I started with a lone T3 android called Francis with no skills but many minor passions. Francis was a vengeful android; once a servant robot on a glitterworld, he was abandoned and left to rust after his glitterworld owners upgraded to a new model. I like to think that he was eventually picked up at the garbage dump, only to be sold into slavery where he traveled to the outer rim before their ship was attacked by pirates. Francis managed to grab a gun after his captor was killed in an explosion and escape podded away in the confusion.

The main theme of the playthrough was to be a robot rights activist, rescuing and repairing any androids I could, while imprisoning any humans that attacked me into slavery. As you can see by the giant guest wing, the latter didn't last forever... To be honest, at the end I was running out of things to build, although after so many years maybe Francis finally came to terms with humans after all.

Francis departed roughly an in-game year ago with 14 other colonists, leaving my main fighting force behind. It's crazy to look how far everything has come, he began living in a cave stealing insect jelly to survive, then for many years lived in a small granite shack where the kitchen now lies. Once I got the trifecta of T4 androids, Rimerfeller and SRTS, things ramped up disgustingly quickly though.

Also I really wish I new about the shapes mod before today... I was using Circles and Ovals and adding zoning took so damn long >:|
