    Randy finally got me...

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 03:45 AM PST

I'm trying the rich explorer run. RPing a little. Trying to make a small outpost with only one real resident. An evil man who enslaves the raiders he defeats and forces them to work on projects in his fortress.

Plans were well underway, I had a few hauling animals and three prisoners locked away. One of whom I had enslaved for some grunt work around the base. Apparently Randy frowned upon my crimes and enacted the master plan. Boom. Raid. Boom. Prisoner berserk. Boom. Small thrumbo herd? No matter I can handle this.

Got the hauling bear and husky inside the walls sent my colonist to turn on the turrets in the kill box, then on his way to ahem pacify the enraged prisoner. All seemed well.

First two raiders down to traps leading to my kill box one takes cover right at the entrance to my box and let's loose with his bow while his comrade charges to his death like Tom cruise in the last samurai. The remaining archer does not flee but I leave him to my turrets and return attention to the prison break.

The berserk prisoner has been downed but not before beating up his cell mate and an innocent colony Yorkshire terrier. The colonist begins stabilizing all involved in a bloody mess in the hallway and everything seems under control. I look back to the kill box.

Only to see my four turrets spraying wildly all around the archer having only hit him twice each shot a graze. My disappointment turned to horror as I watched the two thrumbos calmly walk through the already sprung traps, past the raiders and into my kill box. Just as another volley from my turrets fires. Boom. Thrumbo revenge. One turns to the raiders and kills him in one blow. I guess that's a small blessing.

CRAP! Focus! Okay forbid the doors, don't go outside we got plenty of food let's just wait it out. Everyone is healing let's put the door back on the prison cell and we will be fine.

Ding. Slave escaping. I paused and scroll up to see that the prisoner who should have been cutting stone in a dark cave at the back of my base had used all the commotion to sneak right out the front. Must have thought himself pretty clever too. He walks about two steps out the door before he gets downed.

At this point my husky decides that, slave or not this is no place to die. She runs right out the door and grabs him. The thrumbos charge past her and into my storage room. My poor colonist probably voids his bowels as these two monsters charge him. But He holds his steel long sword high. Knowing that no one is going to be there to save him...

A few dodges a few slashes to the first creature almost got my hopes up. A short but valiant fight ended swiftly when a thrumbo bit his left leg off. I waited patiently while he bled out. Waiting for him to either stand up (ha), or by some miracle be saved by some stranger. Alas none came.

A gruesome end for a bad man, unfortunate timing from a desperate slave, and a cold hungry death for the invalid prisoners. Is this justice in your eyes randy?Maybe someone else will find a use for this place...

First time posting here so I hope I didn't bore y'all. This game is beautiful. Have fun!

A wanderer joined the colony ?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 06:52 AM PST

So I get this event, and a new guy joins my 5 men tribal colony. Pretty good, I send him to work.

After 2-3 weeks, out of nowhere, I get a message saying he died with no reasons whatsoever and I can't even found the body...

Suddenly, I found his bedroom with the walls covered in blood and right next to it, there some kind of dark/black pawn beating the shit out of my labrador. Yeah, that pawn was a mime and that was the creepiest shit I ever saw in this game.

Thanks, Alpha Animals, now I am scared.

Anyone else mostly ignore the fact that you can do war crimes and stuff and enjoy seeing the drama, strategy and triumphs?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 12:26 AM PST

I mean a lot of people probably do but a lot of discussion when it comes to this game devolves into "haha you can do war crime funny"

I've played for over 300 hours and seeing a colonist die still hits me like a rock. I like seeing the colonist's relations with others. Just a lil bit of mods and you have funerals, elections, and other events that make the colony just seem a little more alive. I often sort of ignore this part while playing but doing some afterthought, maybe it's really why I love this game so much. Even when I beat it after nearly 300 hours of playing, I keep going. It's pretty rare for me to replay games after I've beaten them, Rimworld just hits in a way I've never seen done in any game ever.

I honestly don't understand why people like to advertise this game as purely a war crime simulator when the game punishes you for it.
