Refugee quest, betrayals, and downing mechanics.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 07:14 AM PDT

In a new naked brutality save, just coming out of the first winter, got the refugee quest. Was one almost perfect and another pretty decent candidate, would have been happy if either joined. Really struggled with food, even priotorised getthing them the few beds and food to keep them happy.

Of course they betrayed me. I was hoping I could get at least one of them downed and recruit the old fasioned way. Tried reload the save a few times, tried punching instead of shooting. Even locked one in a room nce. Both insta died every time. I know normal downing have a percent chance based on the number of normal people, but I only had 4 at that stage.

Is it locked to 100% for betrayers, or was that just bad luck?

When the siege comes but your first mortar cooks off all of their shells and kills half their party. Quite possibly the most satisfying moment on the Rim.

Can short term positive social relationships fix social incompatibility? Answer: no

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 03:00 AM PDT

TLDR: Tried to quickfix Compatibility with short term positive relations (rapport built from prisoner recruit). Pawns even fell in love but broke up after the short term relation boost wore off. Now they hate each other even more. Overall, you could have guessed how it would turn out

    1. Background: I tried to find a suitable lover for my one and only pawn "Nijstad" and captured a fast learner girl called "Wilkerson". However she turned out to be a massive b* and kept insulting my pawn which caused regular social fights. Out of curiosity I looked in dev mode and they have -1.2 compatibility (no abrasive, ugly or similar on neither of the pawns)
    2. How I made them like each other, or...

It was the hostages' fault. They did everything I told them to. If they hadn't, I might not be here now (Jan-Erik Olsson, the swedish bank robber who put the "Stockholm" in "Stockholm syndrom")

I tried to use the "rapport built" from recruiting to bring up the relationship and hoped that it would continue to stay up once they were on friendly terms. First I captured Nijstad and started recruiting (you can cheese the social boost quickly by cancelling and restarting the chatting after 4 times of "rapport built"). Once the relation boost hit ~50 I released him. Then I captured Wilkerson and started recruiting the other way around.

    1. How it turned out, or...

It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages (Friedrich Nitzsche who got friendship and a little bit of syphilis from prostitutes)

Maybe the sensory mechanites helped with the talking, but somehow Nijstad managed to get Wilkerson fall in love with him while he was pinging out on a corpse obsession. (Basically he dug out a corpse, put it on the dining table next to Wilkerson and then asked her about something completely unrelated which made her fall in love with him). All seemed fine for a month or so, they even got engaged. Then the "rapport built" wore off, and the insults kept accumulating. After a rather long while of disfunctional relationship they broke up. Now they hate each other even more and enter regular social fights. (the catharsis and harmed me cancel each other out so they remain at a stable -30 to -50 ).

    1. Next steps: I already nearly lost my base to a raid because of the constant insults and tantrums. So one colonist is going to be banished. It's just the question weather I find a guy or girl with good stats first to repeat the whole mess and hope for better results.
