Just realized why it is canonically accurate that the game's world has no fossil fuels

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 11:37 AM PST

In the game's fiction primer, it states there is no alien life. At some point in the game's lore, autonomous space-faring robots were built by a human civilization that could detect other earth-like planets, travel to them, and deposit organisms, greenhouse gases and resources onto these "deadworlds" (habitable planets with no life) to make them livable for humans. This means the oldest fossils on any planet besides earth are no older than a few thousand years.

Reading flavor text of compacted steel and compacted machinery deposits, it states that they are remnants of ancient structures and machines. So is plasteel. The rimworlds we play on are abandoned remains of the efforts of these autonomous "seeder" robots, likely created by a glitterworld civilization. If it takes millions of years for dead organic matter to become oil, coal and natural gas, then canonically, it makes sense as to why there are no fossil fuels.

More interesting, this means that steamworlds, or planets that have mastered external combustion engines but lack the resources to create more advanced technologies must use some manufactured biofuel, wood or charcoal to power their societies. This is likely where chemfuel came from, some energy-dense fuel that can be used in place of petroleum. Also explains why boomalopes exist, a way to cut out manufacturing processes. Midworlds (planets similar to ours) with vehicles sporting IC engines and large power plants use chemfuel to power their societies. I don't know who wrote the fiction primer and the game's lore but this is incredibly interesting!

Randy has a plan for me (Part 2)

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 05:58 AM PST

Just had my first game over and now i understand why no one uses wood for making bases.

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 02:13 AM PST

After 5 hours i had a nice wooden base and 5 people in it. Some Mafia Man came and said if you save me from these guys i'll join you. And i said alright bruh and fought with some people with guns. After the fight most of my crew were injured and was on their beds.

So here is the problem, i might have underestimated this mental health stuff of my crew. While most of my crew was on their beds one of my people decided to attack the new guy. So they both injured each other and i had sent them to their beds. Only one person was healthy and guess what ? He just decided to burn the whole base down when everyone was unconscious. I had batteries near the rooms to so they exploded and almost everyone died in a fire except one guy. Still injured, i tried to get some wood to repair base. But some wild dog decided to attack my last injured guy and killed him.
