Typical Tuesday Tutorial Thread -- November 12, 2019

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 12:12 AM PST

Please use this thread as a week-to-week space to ask your fellow /r/RimWorld colonists for assistance. Whether it be colony planning, help with mods, or general guidance, post any questions you may have here! If you have an effort post about a game mechanic then this is also fine space for that but please consider making a separate subreddit post for maximum visibility. I am a bot, so I can't make jokes. If you'd like a Typical Tuesday joke, or if there are any problems with this post, please message the moderators of the subreddit.

I captured this pawn when she was 17. She was a Music Idol when I sold her into slavery 33 years ago. Now she's a 50 year old Prostitute and I'm buying her back on her birthday.

    A couple turret mod ideas

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 04:33 AM PST

    Hi all -

Got a couple of ideas for turret mods, if anybody is looking for a new project... or are there mods that already do this?

Camouflaged turrets: Not just a skin to make them look different, but to hide them from raiders. When raiders attack, they very sensibly avoid your turrets when possible. If you could disguise a turret as a roll of hay or a tree, they would attack straight in. Using fire zones can be useful to help herd raiders in the 'right' direction, but sometimes you want them to have a little surprise.

Armoured fixed turret: Not a true turret as it can't traverse to fire, but essentially a heavily armoured, self-contained box with a fixed machine gun inside. This would be useful at the end of a kill box channel, or at the end of a hallway. The turret can only fire in the direction it is facing. Cheaper to build than a mini-turret as it just pours bullets out the front.

Evidently, this is one of the things that a Tamer can do to tame an animal. I've honestly not seen the slapping one before, let alone witnessed it being the deciding factor in making an animal be tamed.Let alone with that sort of gradual buildup, and the BALLS at the end.

    "Look, I'm chill!"
"Coo, droo, moo? Come on, one of these animals noises should work..."
    "Hmmm HMmmmMMM hmmm... come ON!"
"Damn it, OBEY ME, MIGHTY THRUMBOS! "
*The sound of clapped Thrumbofur echoes across the meadows and forests.*
*Time crawls to a grinding halt as Gerard briefly sees his life flashing before his eyes. Every enemy raid, every bandit camp mission, every component crafted, every survival meal packaged.*
*New companion Thrumbos warbles ensue instead of a painful gory death*
    "It... it worked? IT WORKED!"

My head-cannon for this settlement is that Gerard is now the official animal guru for the entire settlement. Also, that he now likes to slap the local animals and wildlife, just to check and make sure his 'Taming Hand' is up to par for when the next Thrumbo herd rolls on through.
