Posted: 22 Mar 2020 10:51 PM PDT Hello, all! Since I'm quarantined at home and don't have anything better to do, I've been reading through old RimWorld patch notes and I figured that some of the things I found were interesting enough that other people might want to read about them, too. Before that though, I've got some statistics on my total playtime. I've been playing this game since the day Alpha 8 was released, when I was 11 years old. On August 13th of this year, I will officially have been playing this game for a full third of my life. Almost all of my play time is on the non-Steam version, but my low-ball estimate for my total playtime is 7,500 hours (~4 hours per day seems about accurate for me). Since I paid $120 for the game (I refreshed the page during the transaction and accidentally bought it twice), I've gotten roughly 62 hours per dollar spent (worth af). In all of that time, I played without mods until last year, and I've never gotten bored (to my memory). This was the first game I ever purchased with my own money. I originally found out about it from watching a video series by Blitzkriegsler on YouTube. There have been 13 major releases (plus one DLC) since I started playing. List of things that didn't exist in RimWorld when I started playing (by update added): Alpha 9: Tattered apparel - Uranium - Multiple colonists can extinguish fire - Ancient dangers - Personal shields - Deterioration - Surgery failures - Corn - Rice - Food poisoning - Phoebe renamed (iirc). Alpha 10: Joy Alpha 11: Sappers - Raiders light crops on fire - Traps - Toxic fallout - Volcanic winter - Manhunter packs - Chased refugee - Psychic soothe - Allowed areas - Ice sheet biome. Alpha 12: Animal taming - Boomalopes - Thrumbos - Dogs - Elephants - Other animals - Room roles and stats - Greedy trait - Jealous trait - Ascetic trait - Psychic lances/pulsers - Sarcophagi - Poison ships - Flashstorms - Heart attacks - Hay - Night owls - Minified furniture - Painstopper - Joywire - Furniture can have art - Sterile tile - Manhunter packs can have animals besides Wargs. Alpha 13: "Permadeath" (commitment) mode - Relationships - Opinions - Prison breaks - Infestations - Components - Trade caravans - Firefoam - Extreme desert - Day length doubled - Year split into seasons instead of months. Alpha 14: "Humans now do incest." - "Animals no longer do incest." - "Tortoises aren't so deadly any more[sic]." - Raiders can steal things - You can type numbers when trading instead of dragging - "Humans can now eat unbutchered corpses." - Scenarios - Minor mental breaks - Pyromaniacs - Pemmican - Ability to play as tribal. Alpha 15: Drugs (Penoxycyline was called "Malari-block") - Deep drilling - Passive cooler. Alpha 16: Spherical planet - Sea ice - Factions can have multiple bases - Caravans - "Travel" (friendly AI) ending - Transport pods - Megatherium renamed - Cleaning jobs assigned in batches. Alpha 17: Roads - Rivers - Quests on the map - Smokepop belts - Pawns can head butt if they have no other usable attacking body parts - Wimps - "Raiders will no longer compulsively attack doors." - Sun lamps turn off at night - Seasons replaced by quadrums. Beta 18: Tropical swamp - Temperate swamp - Cold bog - Meteorite impact event - Tornadoes - Auroras - Special quest items (i.e. vanometric power cell) - New mental breaks (including catatonic, tantrum, and run wild) - inspirations. Beta 19: Bridges - Naked brutality scenario - Ship end sequence - Scyther split into scyther and lancer - Watermill generator - Autocannon turret - Uranium slug turret - Undergrounder trait - Tough trait - Flak pants - Archotech bionics - Tornado generator - Forbid/unforbid tool - Tornado incident removed - Shiv removed - Removed shoddy and superior item qualities - Charge lance usable by humans. Release 1.0: Almost exclusively bugfixes. Release 1.1 and Royalty: These just came out so I won't list the changes. They're big, though. Final thoughts: It's incredible how much the game has changed in the time I've spent playing it. I can't remember at all playing without some of these things - rice and corn, sappers, manhunter packs. Alpha 11 sucked. I can't believe days used to be half as long, but it makes sense since years also used to have a ton of days. Alpha 14 has the most iconic changelog. I'm so glad that I found this game. It's been such a large part of my life without my ever really realizing it, and I really can't imagine life without it. It is a testament to the skills and imagination of the people at Ludeon that they can create a game which people can find enjoyment in for over half a decade, and I am incredibly thankful for their hard work. TL;DR: The game has come a long way and it's also really good. Sorry for the wall of text. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 23 Mar 2020 04:56 AM PDT So my colonist bambi tamed a thrumbo when a raid suddenly came and she was still outside so the thrumbo decided to fight the raiders while her master Bambi could run away she escape we fought the raid and finish them off but alas the thrumbo bled to death... so to commemorate the thrumbo's brave act Bambi decided to place the remains of her pet beside her bed (BTW shes also and ascetic so its a win-win).
